A lot of time and effort goes into preparing any event but this was mentally and physically exhausting. At the same time it was a very rewarding experience to meet with existing customers and potential new customers.
We build our asset management software to help our customers solve the issue’s they have in the day to day services they provide. So it is rewarding when we hear how we are helping them solve these problems, but it doesn’t stop there.
Round Table Discussion
Round table discussions provide some fascinating topics of discussion. Especially when sat at a table of people within the same industry but work for different companies. Some people talk about the shortcomings of how they operate today and the difficulties they face.
This can sometimes be overcome and answered in a heart beat with one of the people around the table. “Oh we used to do it that way but now we do it this way and productivity has increased”. The value of these round table discussions is immense in sharing experiences of actually working practice’s.
Just ask anyone who attended the event.
Accumulation Of Knowledge
Having organised these for a few years and working with over 40% of local authorities KaarbonTech have accumulated a wealth of knowledge on asset management. Not only do we provide asset management software but also share the real world knowledge and help to implement these strategies.
Live Presentations of The day
The day was filled with short presentations through out the day, some from existing customers along with KaarbonTech. The wealth of information was immense but all designed to give valuable insights to what can be achieved using KaarbonTech SMART solutions.
Integration – Luke Wakeling, KaarbonTech
At KaarbonTech of course we believe that our asset management software is the best. But we also believe some of that confidence is based on our desire to help business improve their efficiencies. With that in mind we set out to enable our software to be able to integrate into other systems.
Today we are still developing the sharing capabilities of our platform. Already in place today are:
- WFS – Web Feature Service
- CMS including Confirm & C360
- WinCAN – CCTV Pipeline Survey
- Exports as Shapefile, KML or CAD
- CRM Integration
- Two-way communication
- When a defect is reported in an external system, automatically raise a service request in KaarbonTech
- When that job is attended, feedback to CRM system to notify client of resolution
- Google Earth
- Share with sub contractors / clients without license
- Useable on any device with Google Earth
We have worked hard to ensure that our SMART solutions integrate smoothly with other systems already out there. If you are unsure if we can integrate into your current platforms then give KaarbonTech a call today.
Our Journey Into Digital Drainage – Martin King, Area Highways Manager, Northumberland County Council
Martin started his presentation with reminding everyone in the room of the Statutory Duties within the industry and how at Northumberland County Council they were struggling to keep within those Statutory Duties
- Section 41 of the Highways Act 1980 imposes a duty upon the highway authority to maintain those roads which are maintainable at public expense
- Section 100 of the Highways Act 1980 empowers the highway authority to construct, maintain or cleanse drainage systems in the highway or on adjoining land, for the purpose of drainage and prevention of surface water flooding on the highway
A New Plan
A different approach was needed, they estimated approximately 90,00 gullies but they had no idea if this data was even close. It was time to digitise their assets using the KaarbonTech gully asset management software.
Martin’s presentation was a great insight into the journey they have started in digitising their assets. He shared many valuable insights into the journey Northumberland County Council have taken, along with the things they have learned with improved efficiencies. A long way to go but a much easier and clearer path just like our highways.
If you did not attend KarbonTech Live 2019 and would like to know more about the journey contact us today. We will happily share the rest of journey with you.

Stakeholders Visibility – Kristian Fields, Operations Manager, Kier (Surrey County)
Kier had been awarded the drainage contract in Surrey for a 10 year period and faced some initial problems. The first one was lack of visibility and the difficulty of managing large volumes of paper data. Not only that the clients confidence in the operation was demising along with their trust.
In 2017 Kier re-tendered with KaarbonTech on board to add a new dimension to the tender. Using their accumulated knowledge from previous tenders they were able to improve Kier’s offerings and bring better value for money with a clear road map for continual improvement.
KaarbonTech System Provided:
- Accessibility of platform
- Geospatial restrictions on data input
- Improved asset data capture – asset history
- Visual representation of asset data (layers of information)
With the work now taking on a much more proactive maintenance schedule, time and money was saved on site and in the office. The increased visibility and clearly defined KPI’s regained the trust of the local authority. With the increased efficiency of the work force the number of emergency response call outs fell from 324 in 2014/15 down to just 135 in 2018/19
Contact KaarbonTech today and they will give you the full picture on how to manage your assets effectively.

Transparency – Danny Whitlock, Commercial Director, Flowline Ltd
A situation in which business and financial activities are done in an open way without secrets, so that people can trust that they are fair and honestCambridge English Dictionary
A very interesting presentation and discussion as not all 3rd party contractors embrace the visibility the software brings. However Danny explained that the transparency improved their working relationship and trust with the local authorities.
If you are a third party contractor and like to know how you can improve your business case with your local authority then give the team a call. Or if you are a local authority and would like to understand what your contractors bring to the table we are here to help.
