Detailed survey pipeline information at your fingertips
Engineers and contractors solving highway drainage problems can now call up video surveys on their smartphones whilst out in the field, instead of having to traipse back to the office to look at them.
It's all thanks to a new release by KaarbonTech of their world-beating Gully SMART system, that allows local councils to manage highway drainage assets remotely, saving both time and money.
Until now, engineers and contractors had to trawl through hours of stored footage of drainage pipelines in the office, pause when they found the defect, then visit the site and measure above ground until they hit the spot. Now, it can all be on screen in front of them when they get there.
The Gully SMART upgrade now associates video surveys to their relevant pipelines and allows defects to be located, viewed and examined remotely. This means that all stakeholders – engineers, contractors, gully cleaners, and council managers – can access these videos from anywhere; in the field, office or from their home.
The system features powerful filtering to select by defect type or pipeline grading, and enables field engineers to generate single-click reports with all the relevant data at their fingertips.
KaarbonTech Technical Strategy Manager Doug Maxted explained that the new Gully SMART release dynamically links stored video surveys and photos to its interactive area map showing which highway assets are where. Instead of having to work out which video relates to which asset, users are now just a click or tap away from reviewing the relevant footage wherever they are.
And if they have to write a report, they can drop in the right photos from the asset at the click of a mouse, and include a hyperlink to the relevant video.
"Video surveys and subterranean photos can be very expensive, and it's not conducive to good practice and efficient working if they're sitting disconnected on some hard drive or on a USB stick in someone's drawer," said Doug. "Our new GullySMART upgrade provides dynamic links to enable the user to make the most efficient use of those videos and photos by being able to call them up on their tablet or smartphone right where they are. Having that level of access to data is much more helpful to them on site when they're trying to troubleshoot, it makes more efficient use of their time, and enables them to get the job done more quickly. And that saves the council taxpayer money."
KaarbonTech Managing Director Mark Entwistle said: “Never before has sharing video survey data been this easy, which cuts out time-consuming desk searches by users. I’m certain it will be welcomed by local authorities wanting the best bang for their buck in their efforts to make taxpayers’ money go further.”
Feedback from local councils has been enthusiastic, telling KaarbonTech they like the way the upgraded Gully SMART system brings video surveys to life, saving time in accessing results and finding relevant defect data.
