As part of Kew Gardens approach to continuous development of the management of its tree collection, it was keen to hear how KaarbonTech could simplify and improve the risk element process. Kew Gardens uses Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ), the global industry standard for tree risk assessment.
With access to the record of the trees care, being key for them to store and use that data, KaarbonTech worked collaboratively with the Head of Arboriculture at Kew Gardens, to establish how they currently risk assess their tree stock and store those records. The tree inspection frequency and the tree care programme, is driven by risk, but what was key was the consistency of recording the risk score.KaarbonTech set to work to ensure all tree data was recorded in its software, that may be individual branches, trunk, or the trees general health. Upon inspection, the arborists risk assess the tree and its individual components, are able to choose an element of that tree from a menu on a PDA, and risk score that asset, using the TRAQ method of calculation.
By bringing all data together into one risk model, Risk SMART enables councils to move from costly reactive to a more effective proactive management of their tree stock. Understanding the highway assets, its tree stock condition, the tree species combined with their location is the most efficient way in which to risk profile the entire asset, which is a huge step forward for risk management.
"We’re proud to be collaborating with Kew Gardens to enhance the way in which tree risk is managed.
