Nick Gardiner

Business Development Partner

My name is Nick Gardiner and I'm a Business Development Partner at KaarbonTech.
I've worked in software sales for more than 20 years, with the last decade focused on working with local authorities across the UK. During that time, I've had the opportunity to work with a wide range of councils, each with their own challenges, priorities and ways of working. What I enjoy most is understanding those challenges and helping organisations find practical ways to address them.
I'm very much a people person. Wherever possible, I prefer to get out of the office, meet people face-to-face and spend time understanding what they're trying to achieve. The best conversations come from asking questions, listening carefully and getting to the root of the problem.
One of the things that has interested me most since joining KaarbonTech is how interconnected drainage networks really are. Many systems focus on individual assets in isolation, but the reality is that drainage, highways, trees and the wider environment all influence one another. Understanding those connections is critical to making informed decisions and improving resilience.
What excites me most about working with local authorities is that the outcomes matter to all of us. We all rely on the services councils provide, and we all benefit when those services are delivered more effectively. Being able to support authorities with solutions that help them work smarter and make better-informed decisions is something I find genuinely rewarding.
Outside of work, family life keeps me busy, particularly with twin teenagers. I also remain actively involved in local government and community activities. Something that often surprises people is that I was elected Mayor of Highworth in 2017, giving me first-hand experience of representing a local community and supporting residents.
I'm looking forward to continuing to build relationships across the sector and helping authorities make the most of the information, knowledge and expertise available to them.

Meet Nick – Business Development Partner

Experience in Local Government and Software

Nick joined KaarbonTech as a Business Development Partner, bringing more than two decades of experience in software sales and over ten years working directly with local authorities across the UK.

Throughout his career, Nick has worked with organisations of all sizes to understand operational challenges, identify opportunities for improvement and support the successful adoption of technology. His approach is built around listening first, understanding the root causes of problems and ensuring that any proposed solution delivers genuine value rather than simply introducing new systems or processes.

What Attracted Nick to KaarbonTech

What attracted Nick to KaarbonTech was the depth of sector expertise within the business. Having worked with councils for many years, he understands the importance of domain knowledge and the value of working with people who genuinely understand the operational realities faced by local authorities.

A Unique Local Government Perspective

Alongside his professional experience, Nick has spent more than a decade as an elected councillor and previously served as Mayor of Highworth. This experience provides him with a unique perspective on local government, helping him understand both the operational and political challenges that authorities face when delivering services and managing increasingly complex demands.

Developing Sector Expertise

Since joining KaarbonTech, Nick has developed a particular interest in the drainage sector and the concept of connected networks. He is especially interested in how information from drainage, highways, trees and wider environmental systems can be brought together to support better decision-making, improved resilience and more effective service delivery.

People-Focused Approach

Nick describes himself as a people person and enjoys building long-term relationships with authorities, delivery partners and industry stakeholders. Wherever possible, he prefers face-to-face engagement and values open conversations that help uncover the underlying challenges organisations are trying to address.

Outside of Work

Outside of work, Nick enjoys spending time with his family and remains actively involved in local government and community activities. His combination of commercial experience, public sector understanding and genuine interest in helping organisations improve makes him a valuable part of the KaarbonTech team.
