Mark Entwistle

Founder & Chairman

I think I bring a variety of skills. I'm quite happy getting involved in anything from data, quite happy being put up on stage. I am Mark Entwistle, I'm the founder and chairman of Kaarbontech. I think my vision at the start was quite simplistic and that was really to make a success of it. But I think very quickly I started to recognize the power of data and I started to see the real benefits for bringing environmental efficiencies in, being able to demonstrate the value that one asset has over another. I think the biggest challenge for Carbon tech is really the industry that we serve. It's starved with finance and therefore, when you try and offer a service that looks forward, that looks at the art of the possible, trying to harness longer term savings, it's a real challenge. I think the biggest success for me in Kaarbontech's journey has really been the exposure that we get, having engaging conversations with the Department for Transport and seeing things like Kew Gardens use our platform to manage what is the epicentre of tree knowledge. It really gives you that kind of depth of credibility and that warm glow inside where you think actually we're obviously doing a good job here. I think I'd still love to achieve something that moves the industry forward and is scalable nationally. We do some really clever stuff with different authorities. You can really see the value that is added. So I would really like to see something that actually took momentum across the whole industry. My hobbies outside of work, anything that I can get my heart racing with the fear of breaking something without actually breaking something ticks a box for me. Something that might surprise people. Well, I've signed up for the UK jet surfing championships, which sees me compete as part of the UK race team with other countries and other riders across the world. My favourite dessert is Black Forest Gateau, but only if it's done right. Oh, definitely pineapple on pizza, there's no question about that. Do I have a favourite service station? No.

Meet Mark Entwistle, Founder and Chairman of KaarbonTech - and the original driving force behind its creation back in 2012.

Building Something That Works
Mark’s vision at the start was simple: build a company that delivered real value. But it didn’t take long for that ambition to grow. As the business developed, so did its purpose; to show how data could support better decisions and deliver long-term environmental impact.

A Background in Delivery
With over 20 years of experience managing large-scale contracts in the local government and utilities sector, Mark brings a blend of frontline understanding and big-picture thinking. He stays close to the team and the technology, helping shape product direction and ensuring KaarbonTech remains aligned to the needs of the sector.

From Challenge to Credibility
Mark knows the realities of working in an industry where funding is stretched, and future planning is difficult. Convincing others to invest in innovation that supports long-term change isn’t always easy. But milestone moments; from supporting over 70 local authorities, to the use of KaarbonTech’s software by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew - shows how far the company has come.

Looking to the Future
Mark remains focused on helping the industry evolve. He’s passionate about creating scalable solutions that can be adopted across the country, turning successful projects into widespread change and value.

Powered by Adrenaline
Outside of work, Mark keeps his energy high by taking part in the UK Jet Surfing Championships, racing internationally as part of the UK team. He’s always up for a challenge - preferably one that gets the heart racing without breaking anything in the process.

In Mark’s Words:

“You start with an idea — but when that idea gains momentum and starts to change how an industry works, that’s when you know you’ve built something worth continuing.”
