If we didn't have KaarbonTech, I'm not 100% sure where we'd be. My name's Chris Brown, and I'm a Cyclic Maintenance Manager for M Group Highways in Devon. I've been using KaarbonTech for about 11 years now. Before that, everything was done on maps and paper, so out in the field it was very difficult for the operatives to work.
GullySMART has massively improved the way we work. It's a lot easier to use. We can see things live, and the client can see things live as well. We can see where we are on programme at the touch of a button, put it into a work package, and have operatives on site within minutes. GullySMART has just changed the whole dynamics of our job, both in the office and for the operatives.
My name's Josh Hutchins and I'm a Cyclical Agent on the Devon IS contract. Reporting-wise, with a click of a button we can see everything on the gullies. We can break it down per area, per ward, per parish. Our client absolutely loves KaarbonTech. They love that we can report very quickly. If they come back to us and ask how we're getting on with the programme, we can instantly show them.
It's the accuracy for us – knowing how full the gullies are, what type they are, where the inlets and outlets are. It's data we simply didn’t have before. In public engagement, it’s also really useful. Our guys would often go somewhere and the public wouldn’t understand why they’re doing one asset and not another. With KaarbonTech we can show them – these are the jobs we’ve been instructed to do – and explain why.
Within GullySMART, the Sensitive Outfalls feature has had a big impact. A sensitive outfall is one that leads into a watercourse, and the last thing we want is to discharge into the sea. Sensitive outfalls have been really handy for programming, so the guys don’t do them during the summer months or bathing season. We can’t clean something we’re not supposed to clean, and the operatives can’t get into trouble for doing it, so we take that responsibility away from them.
I started using KaarbonTech back in late 2024. I'm Mark, a Supervisor at Devon Highways. Getting started with KaarbonTech is really easy – smooth, user friendly, and it doesn’t take long to learn. It helps us keep information on each asset. We can always take photos of the asset or any problems, relay them back to the client, and show where we are on the programme.
The three words I would use for KaarbonTech are: visible, effective, reactive. Three major benefits of using KaarbonTech are: being able to report with accurate data, being able to programme guys’ work within 5 to 10 minutes, and being able to report back to our client with live data.
