KaarbonTech is a unique infrastructure asset management and data company, providing SaaS, surveying and advisory services to the UK Local Authority market. We pride ourselves on being able to supply cutting-edge services that meet the complex and ever-changing needs of our local government clients. We are the leading provider of drainage and other asset management software, supplying over 40% of authorities in England. With a long (12+ years) track record of delivering excellence in this sector, we are looking for new, skilled individuals to join our team to help facilitate our continued growth. 

 

The Role:

This high-level role will be a challenge, with a steep learning curve and the requirement to understand our platform, our customers, and our overall business approach. As the Product Manager, you will take over, and expand on, some of what one of our now joint Managing Directors has previously been responsible for in shaping our product development. You will work closely with and have the support of our CTO and report directly to the MD.

With help and support from the team, you will be expected to regularly communicate with our clients to understand their needs and turn those into product requirements, while also balancing the business’s own needs on a day-to-day basis. You will also be required to manage our long-term product roadmap to support business growth.

You will need to be flexible in applied working practices - e.g. we cannot be fully agile or waterfall in our approach – whilst also being able to push back where requests do not meet business goals. You will be responsible for an organised flow of information around the business, and take ownership of process implementation where required.

You will directly oversee the QA, Support and Technical Support (who maintain our client’s setup and bespoke configuration) teams. Experience working with technical teams and balancing multiple stakeholders is a must.

Ultimately you need to be fearless in working across the business to implement improvements as defined by our strategic goals.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain a deep understanding of the product, customer experiences and needs.

  • Engage with customers to understand their needs.

  • Skilfully balance customer-focused product development with the overarching needs of the business.

  • Use insights to drive product delivery and improvements.

  • Ensuring sustainable growth and value creation.

  • Develop a clear product vision and maintain the project and development roadmap.

  • Manage the Support, Technical Support and QA teams, focusing on delivery, quality, and customisation to meet client needs within our existing constraints.

  • Continued stakeholder engagement. 

  • Be able to write comprehensive briefs for both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of project requirements.

  • Keep informed of industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation and maintain competitive advantage.

 

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in product management, preferably in a tech or software development environment. B2B experience is a bonus.

  • Strong leadership skills, with experience managing cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to extract customer requirements and translate them into clear development plans.

  • Able to document and break down complex concepts and requirements into clear, actionable development tickets.

  • The ability to balance multiple priorities, make difficult decisions, and drive projects to completion.

  • A customer-centric mindset, with a proven track record of improving product value and customer satisfaction.

  • Familiarity with product tools such as Figma is desired, but not essential.

This role is home-based with the expectation of self-management in prioritising tasks and time. Regular feedback, a strong desire for continuous learning, and occasional visits to our Head Office in Bournemouth (around 6 times per year) are integral to this role.
