KaarbonTech has established a reputation for technological innovation and delivering results for customers.

Founded in 2012 and based in the New Forest the company specialises in ground based asset management software and aerial surveying.

Managing Director, Mark Entwistle has extensive experience in the field of utilities asset management and innovation. The vision behind the products and services is the understanding that the collection of data is only half the picture – it is how that data is used that makes the difference.

KaarbonTech enables customers to both gather and use information intelligently, flexibly and strategically.

The designs of products are built on firsthand knowledge of the issues faced by customers.

Ground Based Asset Management

KaarbonTech combines mobile technology with Ordnance Survey data to create software products that enable customers to automate risk value for each asset and simplify the ongoing updating of inspection and maintenance records. Two widely used products are “Gully Smart” for reducing flood risk and “Grit Smart” to aid winter maintenance efficiency. The software is also increasingly used for tree, sewer and retail park management.

Ordnance Survey Partner

In 2014 KaarbonTech became an official Ordnance Survey partner organisation. This relationship with OS means customers benefit from software that combines OS GIS data with environmental data sets such as flood zones. This enables users to manage and mitigate risk factors.

The software is designed to be used seamlessly on handheld Android and iOS devices offering users both flexibility and efficiency. Interest in the KaarbonTech approach to asset management has generated coverage in Highways magazine, Surveyor magazine, Drain Trader and Local Authority Plant and Vehicle Magazine.

Award Winning

KaarbonTech was announced as the winner of the 2014 Association of Geographic Information (AGI) award for Best Use of Geospatial for Business Benefit.

The prestigious award recognised the reduced flood risk, cost and efficiency savings achieved by Walsall Council as a result of using the ‘Gully SMART’ software.

In 2015 KaarbonTech were shortlisted for the Highways Magazine Award for Best New Technology in the Highways Industry. The judges praised the system as “A good example of smart asset management driving efficiency and productivity”

A partnership with hardware provider Leica Geosystems saw another highly commended product by the Association of Geographic Information (AGI) in October 2015.

In November 2015 KaarbonTech won the Dorset Business Awards for Excellence in Innovation. More than 130 companies contended for an award at this event run by The Dorset Chamber of Commerce. The judging panel reviewed the business processes, approach and software products before awarding the winning title.

Aerial Surveying

Alongside ground based asset management expertise KaarbonTech also provides aerial surveying using unmanned aerial vehicles.  The outputs from aerial surveys include photographic and topographical surveys, flood risk management, volumetric measurements and construction monitoring.

KaarbonTech has flown aerial surveys for a wide range of clients from different sectors.  Survey sites have includes land owned by the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, National Trust and South West Water. The company’s surveys have received media coverage in Geo:Connection magazine, GIM International, Engineering Surveying and the Small Unmanned Aircraft System news (SUAS).

The Future

The company is building on its success with more local authorities in the process of adopting the asset management software and aerial surveys becoming an essential element of asset management.
